The city of Santiago has a 19th century neoclassical architecture and winding side-streets downtown core, dotted by art deco, neo-gothic, and other styles. Santiago’s cityscape is shaped by several stand-alone hills and the fast-flowing Mapocho River, lined by parks such as Parque Forestal. The Andes Range can also be easily appreciated from most points in the city. The city is now home to growing theater and restaurant scenes, extensive suburban development, dozens of shopping centers, and a rising skyline, including the tallest building in Latin America, the Gran Torre Santiago.

Chilean Wings organised a number of trips for us during our stay in Santiago. For each one they were completely flexible and fitted in with our time-scales and deadlines. They recommended places to see and places to eat and put together tailor made itineraries for us. Pablo, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and gave us great background to the history of Chile and the Santiago area. He took us to places we would never have discovered on our own and made the trips very entertaining. We sampled the local drink ``mote con huesillo`` (non alcoholic) for which you definitely need a sweet tooth but definitely has to be tried. Chilean Wings were also extremely helpful when we had a bit of an emergency and we left Chile feeling we had made new friends.
